The Armenian Translation of Proclus' "Elements of Theology" and loane Petritsi's Commentaries

Abstract

Proclus' "Elements of Theology" and loane Petritsi's "Commentaries" were translated from the Georgian into Armenian in 1248
by a Chalcedonite monk Simeon Pghinhanketsi, flourishing in South Georgia. Doubts have been voiced  in Armenian scholarship on the Georgian provenance of the Armenian translation. Textological-philological study of the Georgian and Armenian texts demonstrates indisputably that the Armenian text was translated from the Georgian.   Bearing in mind a whole number of factual data, the Armenian translation is of major significance for the study of the Georgian text of Proclus "Elements" and  Petritsi's "Commentaries".
